New training complex “ANTI-DRONE VR AND FPV PILOT”

Ukrainian LLC U-FORCE has developed a training complex “ANTI-DRONE VR AND FPV PILOT”, designed for training FPV drone operators and military units involved in counter-UAV operations.

The new system allows simultaneous training of both an FPV drone operator and a soldier from an anti-drone unit within a single virtual combat environment. Both participants act as real opponents, providing training conditions that are максимально close to real combat situations.

Principle of operation of the complex

The simulator creates a unified VR space in which an FPV drone operator and a soldier of an anti-drone unit interact in real time, reproducing realistic conditions of modern aerial combat — dynamic UAV movement, rapid maneuvers, changing battlefield conditions, and the need for instant decision-making in an environment максимально close to combat, but fully safe for training.

The drone operator works through FPV goggles and a control remote, receiving an image from a virtual camera. They perform target search and tracking, plan the flight route, use cover, maneuver with changes in altitude and direction, and also make decisions regarding attacks. The flight physics account for inertia, speed, and control limitations.

The anti-drone unit soldier operates in VR goggles with a mock-up pump-action shotgun or an AK-74 assault rifle. The soldier detects the target, tracks it, and determines the moment to open fire. In case of a simulated hit on the shooter, the system activates a shock bracelet, creating an additional psychological and physiological stress factor.

The actions of both sides influence each other: the drone’s maneuvers make it harder to hit, while the shooter’s actions force the FPV operator to change tactics — the drone begins to evade, accelerate, or change its flight trajectory.

Training Modes

Anti-Drone VR

The simulator supports a single-user training mode: the opponent role is performed by a software-based FPV drone whose behavior replicates that of a real operator. This allows full-scale training even without a second participant.

Multiplayer training mode

The system provides a multiplayer mode in which up to three servicemembers can train simultaneously in a single virtual environment: two shooters and one FPV operator. In this format, coordination between soldiers, role distribution, and tactical teamwork are practiced.

Composition of the training complex

The system includes VR goggles for the shooter, a shock bracelet, a mock-up pump-action shotgun or a full-scale mock-up of an AK-74, a transport case, and a tablet. For the drone pilot, FPV goggles, a control remote, a laptop, and a transport case are provided. A Wi-Fi router is also included to ensure connectivity.

Modeling of environmental conditions

The instructor receives a real-time transmission of the training process: the tablet displays data from the shooter’s combat activity, while the laptop shows the drone operator’s activity. This enables real-time scenario adjustment and evaluation of decisions made. After the session is completed, the system automatically generates detailed performance analytics.

The key advantage of the system is safe and cost-effective training without ammunition or real drones, with flexible scenario configuration and practice of core skills: target detection and tracking, FPV drone control, maneuvering, rapid response, and engagement of moving targets for military personnel of any training level.
